Antique Victorian Family Crest Signet Ring 18k Yellow Gold Vintage Mens Jewelry. Weight: 11.6 grams. The ring is hallmarked “18” along with a crown and the makers mark C. Finely detailed Men’s antique Victorian era signet ring (circa 1880s to 1900s) , crafted in 18 karat yellow gold. The shield shaped mount features a family crest with a deer appearing to bound from three wheat sheaves (possible reference to Chester, UK). A crown appears above the deer and wheat scene. The ring is English in origin. Although the ring was made for a gentleman, the ring can also be worn by a woman. The side shoulders feature deep chased scrolled detail. The ring has a nice weighty feel (11.6 grams) with a thickness to the buttery gold. The ring is in very good condition with some light wear evident. We have not cleaned the ring in order to preserve the patina and collector value. Size & Measurements: The ring is a size 4 3/4 (sizable). The shield mount measures 14mm in length (0.55 inches) and 11mm wide (0.43 inches), rising 2.5mm from the finger. Metal & Hallmark: 18 karat yellow gold. This wonderful vintage men’s signet ring is a stand-out statement. Carved with foliate and floral details along the sides, the main element contains an artfully hand-carved monogram with the letters ML over a textured background. The ring is further set with a round brilliant diamond weighing approximately. 15 carats and graded about H in color and VS in clarity. The piece tapers in width from about 4mm in back to 15mm in front. Size 11.75 and weighs 14.3 grams. Please see photos as the ring shows some wear and was at some point resized. 1930s ERA, ART DECO DESIGNED, 10K YELLOW GOLD AND BLACK ONYX STONE, LETTER “P” INITIAL, MEN’S SIGNET / STATEMENT. RING MADE BY THE HISTORIC JEWELRY FIRM OF CHAS. PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND USA MEASURES A US SIZE 10.5 or 10-1/2, TOP STONE MEASURES 5/8″ x 7/16″, SHANK IS 1/8 WIDE, TOTAL WEIGHT OF 6.4 GRAMS. Shows light wear from use and storage, including minor marks, scratches, light scratches over the black onyx surface, and it retains a light patina over the surface due to aging. It is very clean, shines nice as it is, band is straight and round, with no major issues at all. Top features a nicely done Gothic font letter P embellishment over a black onyx stone base, and an Art Deco motif on the sides. It is hallmarked on the inside 10K PAT. 1862710, along with a very faint maker’s mark of a letter H inside a letter C. You can only see half of this mark. While researching who this may be, we found that it is the hallmark of historic and listed USA jewelry firm, Chas. E Hancock Co of Providence, Rhode Island. We did perform a stone / acid test and it confirms 10K gold. We also measured this ring with a professional ring mandrel and it comes out to be a US Size 10.5 or 10-1/2. HISTORICAL FOOTNOTE: While researching this patent number, we found that it dates to June 14, 1932, from Inventors, William Silverman and Maurice Constantine, also of Providence, RI. It is titled Jewelry Construction, of which improves the hollow construction of a signet ring to save in cost and manufacturing. It is possible that the firm of Chas. Would have used this design under license or the 2 inventors were employees of the firm. This is a stunning ring in person and fully documented!
