A heavy antique Victorian Art Nouveau 18K gold old European cut diamond star band ring, hallmarks for Chester 1896. This wonderful large Art Nouveau solid 18K gold band ring would have been originally made for a Victorian gentleman but also makes a fantastic thumb ring! Created at a time when the late Victorian and Art Nouveau period came together this wide band ring has a central raised six point star centered with a beautiful glittering white 0.2 carat old European cut diamond, the band etched and punched with abstract Art Nouveau floral swirls. The ring has English hallmarks with maker’JG’, the crown for gold,’18’, the Chester wheat sheaves town mark and date letter’N’ for 1896. The ring tests for 18K gold. The ring is approximately a size 11. The band is approximately 7.5mm wide. The star is about 11mm x 7mm. The diamond measures about 3.9mm x 3.5mm and weighs approximately 0.2 carats. The ring rises about 3mm above the finger (at the star) and has a weight of approximately 9.0 grams. The ring is in very good condition with evidence of resizing and light general wear including a few areas of rubbing to the engraving.
