Antique large man’s ring. Onyx and 14k gold. Measurements: Weight is 16.4 grams. Description : Unusually large and solid man’s signet ring. A definite statement yet understated and classic. Square, flat, black onyx with canted corners set in a gold mount with sloping border (gallery) so that the onyx and inner gold mount are raised above the level of the finger. Broad, curving shoulders lead to a generously wide shank. Beautiful floral repousse work on shank and outer part of gallery with bright-cut engraving on the inner section of gold. Superb workmanship and design. The onyx has not been engraved, so it is possible to wear the ring as is, or have your own initials/crest engraved on it’s ample surface. The strong, solid black onyx makes a subtle contrast with the finely detailed gold repousse work. Versatile and extremely attractive. Marks and Metal: Inside of shank there are 2 hallmarks. ST hallmark, could be the maker’s initials. Coffin-shaped hallmark is too difficult to read and could be a later mark as many items were assayed in Budapest long after they were made. Electronically tested with Auracle AGT3: 14k gold. Condition: Good with negligible wear commensurate with age.
