Rolex Vintage Explorer I 6610 Gilt “Chapter Ring” Dial ORIGINAL OWNER (6610). Excellent Condition with European Watch Company pouch. This is a vintage c. It has an integral stainless steel folded link Jubilee bracelet with a double deployant clasp and 55 endlinks, and a domed acrylic crystal. It has the original screw-down Twinlock winding crown with the Rolex crown emblem, and the screw-down case back is so lid, inside of which is engraved ” MONTRES ROLEX SA GENEVA SWITZERLAND PATENTED STAINLESS STEEL, ” and the reference number 6610. The 34.5mm diameter solid three-body case, integral lugs, bracelet, and angled bezel are polished/brushed. It has the original patinated black/gilt dial with early radium lume skeletonized hands, a gilt minute/seconds perimeter chapter ring, and a center sweep lollipop seconds hand. There are radium luminescent Arabic numeral hour markers at 3, 6, and 9, baton hour indices, and a triangle at the 12 o’clock position. It’s water resistant and the 12.5mm thick case, dial, and movement are all signed. This Rolex Explorer I Gilt “Chapter Ring” Dial 6610 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Rolex caliber 1030 movement. It’s rhodium-plated, and it’s constructed with 25 jewels, a shock absorber device, and a straight-line lever escapement. It includes a monometallic balance that’s adjusted to temperatures and 5 positions, a self-compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring, and an index regulator. This rare Rolex Explorer I Gilt “Chapter Ring” Dial 6610 was the successor of the earliest 6298 Rolex – the original Mt. Everest Explorer watch that was produced in very small numbers. This dial is 100% original and very unusual with raised gold Roman numeral hour markers, black chapter ring with Arabic numeral 5 minute markers and original gold hands and beautiful original blue steel second hand. This style of dial is seen on the extremely rare first Rolex Air-King watch, Ref. 4925 made for only 1 year in 1945. This Rolex Oyster Elegante watch dates to 1946 and share the exact same style dial as the first Rolex Air-King as my last picture shows. The Air-King is part of my collection and not for sale but shown to see how closely these watches were related! The case 100% original in polished and brushed stainless steel with smooth steel bezel, original steel Oyster crown and flat steel screw down case back.
