1930s ERA, ART DECO DESIGNED, 10K YELLOW GOLD AND BLACK ONYX STONE, LETTER “P” INITIAL, MEN’S SIGNET / STATEMENT. RING MADE BY THE HISTORIC JEWELRY FIRM OF CHAS. PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND USA MEASURES A US SIZE 10.5 or 10-1/2, TOP STONE MEASURES 5/8″ x 7/16″, SHANK IS 1/8 WIDE, TOTAL WEIGHT OF 6.4 GRAMS. Shows light wear from use and storage, including minor marks, scratches, light scratches over the black onyx surface, and it retains a light patina over the surface due to aging. It is very clean, shines nice as it is, band is straight and round, with no major issues at all. Top features a nicely done Gothic font letter P embellishment over a black onyx stone base, and an Art Deco motif on the sides. It is hallmarked on the inside 10K PAT. 1862710, along with a very faint maker’s mark of a letter H inside a letter C. You can only see half of this mark. While researching who this may be, we found that it is the hallmark of historic and listed USA jewelry firm, Chas. E Hancock Co of Providence, Rhode Island. We did perform a stone / acid test and it confirms 10K gold. We also measured this ring with a professional ring mandrel and it comes out to be a US Size 10.5 or 10-1/2. HISTORICAL FOOTNOTE: While researching this patent number, we found that it dates to June 14, 1932, from Inventors, William Silverman and Maurice Constantine, also of Providence, RI. It is titled Jewelry Construction, of which improves the hollow construction of a signet ring to save in cost and manufacturing. It is possible that the firm of Chas. Would have used this design under license or the 2 inventors were employees of the firm. This is a stunning ring in person and fully documented!
