The large scarab on top was created using Stone inlay, and features Turquoise, Mother of Pearl, Onyx, and Spiny Oyster in a graduated striped pattern. These gems are set in a square tooth bezel, and from there the spread wings of Pegasus appears to hold up the Scarab. This divine stallion is faded from wear, giving the piece an antique feel. A great statement piece! Damage : Age appropriate wear. The bottom port of the band has a break. This can either be worn as is, as it does not pinch the skin, or it could be repaired by your local jeweler. The price has been reduced to reflect this. Zuni Jewelry is very distinct and different from other Native American Tribes. Zuni jewelry features gorgeous stone work coupled with inlay designs, Petit Point, and Needle Point. This combined with exceptional Silver work has made the Zuni Tribe one of the best known Silversmith tribes in the world. The Zuni Nation is well known for their stone inlay work. In the earlier years of these creations, they focused on Religious Motifs out of materials that were readily available. That inspiration spread to animals and nature when more people outside of their tribe began collecting their work. Their modern work is well known for its bold stone colors; often turquoise and coral are used. It is rare for their pieces to be signed, as the Zuni People believe artwork belongs to the entire community. Mother of Pearl is a beautiful type of Mollusk shell lining that is used in jewelry. It has been prized for thousands of years for its Iridescent beauty and they way it lights up jewelry. Onyx is a chalcedony quartz that is mined in Brazil, India, California and Uruguay. It has a fine texture and black color; however, some onyx also displays white bands or ribbons against a black or brown background and this variety is known as sardonyx. The name comes from the Greek word onyx which means nail of a finger or claw. Legend says that one day while Venus was sleeping Eros/Cupid cut her fingernails and left the clippings scattered on the ground. Because no part of a heavenly body can die, the gods turned them into stone which later became known as onyx. Spiny Oyster is a beautiful natural stone that has a gorgeous lighter red hue to pink hue and is often substituted for natural coral in Native American jewelry.
