Beautiful hand engraved antique ring. From the inside engraving and manufacturing style this ring appears to be from around the turn of the 19th century. It appears to be American since European jewelry from this period nearly always had makers mark (by law). The 14k is actually hand engraved in and old style font, which is a nice touch. The total weight is 9.2 grams and the center citrine stone is approximately 2.07 carats (estimated by leveridge gauge, using standard formula). The ring size is 7 1/2 and it can be sized. A beautiful aspect of this ring is how the engraving has worn down in a way that can really only be done with age. While the top sides of the ring have worn down to a lovely natural smoothness, the side engraving has kept fairly intact. The gold color is an interesting hue. It’s not quite yellow gold but not pink either. Gold color was much less consistent in jewelry from this period. Often, craftsmen would mix their own gold alloys to create unique colors, unlike today where many craftstmen use the same standardized pre-mixed alloy blends they get from the large suppliers. This ring has been worn down to perfection over several decades. If you’re looking for a truly unique period piece for a reasonable price, this could be the one.
