This awesome, chunky Petroglyph Ring is quite thick and heavy and handcrafted with superb quality, made of solid Sterling Silver and accented with 14K Yellow Gold detailing, inlaid with natural cobalt-blue Lapis Lazuli w/ flecks of Pyrite. The ring is masterfully etched with five animal miniature reproductions of the ancient petroglyphs and the artist’s initials as “GR” or OR. Also inside is a signature plate with the silversmith’s mark and a “sterling” inscription. I did an extensive research trying to identify the artist /designer of this very interesting piece, but I couldn’t find anything even similar. My vintage jewelry consultant suggests that (based on the iconic Australian Bilby animal petroglyph and the fact that Bilbies aren’t found in any other countries; they only live in Australia), this item was created by a contemporary Australian Aboriginal artist and that this ring is late-vintage, circa the 1970s-90s. In any way, this piece is truly unique, and it’s impossible to find another one like it today. This item came from an estate’s private collection. Size: 7 (on a ring mandrel), very comfortable fit. Band face width: 12 mm. Weight: 11 grams (heavy). Hallmarks: signature plate with the silversmith’s mark and a “sterling” (verified solid Sterling Silver & 14k Yellow Gold detailing).
