You’ll be happy you did with the additional provenance of ownership a collector seeks. She is in outstanding condition with little wear. There is some slight patina on the minute hand at its tip. I would likely recommend a good service at some point down the road but she keeps very, very good time, especially given her age. View the pictures closely and ask any question, you may have. The Accutron is both a watch and a technology, and when the first Accutron tuning fork watches were first released to the public in 1960 they were seen as nothing short of revolutionary. Quartz watches were still a decade away, and while the Accutron wasn’t the first electric watch that honor goes to the Hamilton 500 I own a couple of these, a Titan II and a Titan, which debuted in 1957 to much fanfare it was the first to achieve widespread success. Unfortunately for Hamilton their watch was rushed into production and exhibited significant initial teething problems, and when the Accutron came along, the Hamilton Electric 500 was doomed. The tuning fork mechanism of the Accutron gave it unprecedented accuracy and was seen, as well, as marvelous technology, and with unquestioned superiority on its side, Accutron timekeepers and watches found wide acceptance not only from consumers, but also in the worlds of astronautics and aeronautics including in the cockpit of the fastest plane ever made. It’s a story maybe better known within the Accutron enthusiast collector community than in general perhaps aptly, for a tale so rooted in Cold War-era cloak-and-dagger secrecy. But when an aircraft called the A-12 first flew as part of a CIA “black aircraft” project, it was the most advanced in the world, and for its pilots, the CIA selected what was then the world’s most advanced watch. Now it’s your turn to wear a piece of history for a very long time. All the guesswork and service work has been taken care of. As many know, this was a notorious problem with the Accutron 214s of the 60’s, that eventually Bulova was forced to remove the Waterproof marking on its casebacks by the 70’s. So don’t swim or shower your newly acquired timepiece unless you want it to be a K19. I just don’t recommend regularly getting your watch drenched, ya know? THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. Thank God their quality, incredible engineering, artistic design and production, have all allowed great pieces to survive and to be more appreciated today than perhaps they were back then imho. My upbringing, my background, and my experience in both Sales and Account Management transfers to the care I take with my collection and the basis upon which I then choose to rotate them on to other collectors and buyers. When you receive a watch from me, unlike most sellers, pre-owned bracelets will have been both ultra-sonically and steamed cleaned, refurbished or in some cases replaced with NOS Bands or vintage period correct pieces. I even condition and clean Leather Bands. You should see how filthy bracelets get and if you’ve been around awhile, you know exactly what I mean. T roll that way. T just acquire something for my collection and not re-condition it when required. Originality, Provenance, Service and above all Honesty matter to collectors and they matter to me.
